Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Downey is framed by red, white and blue as he addresses the crowd gathered to remember those who died in the initial 911 attacks, as well as the emergency responders who died saving others from the same attacks in a 911 ceremony held on the steps of the Veterans Memorial Hall in Fortuna on Tuesday.
Folks gathered in Fortuna Tuesday for a parade and service commemorating 11 years since the devastating 911 commandeering of commercial airliners used in attacks on both World Trade towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington DC. A downed airliner crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, averting yet another attack on a U.S. target.
